The early history of the company evolved from the Atlanta Outplacement Counseling Center (AOCC), founded in October,
1984 in Atlanta, Georgia. The original mission of AOCC was to provide executives with in depth career assessment and
career mapping services.
However, with the dramatic growth of the outplacement industry in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the name changed to
Career Management International (CMI) and became the largest outplacement firm in the Southeast. CMI was later sold
in 1994 to its' minority shareholders by its' principal, Whit Blakeley.
Whit Blakeley formed CM Resources, Inc. shortly after with the intent of refocusing his expertise and interests on the
executive career management marketplace in the Southeast. Whit's expertise and passion was in innovating news services,
and working with senior executives. Forming CM Resources was his opportunity to do so.
As the business was built and acquired the reputation for being the 'firm of choice' by senior executives, the decision
was made to change the name in 2004 to 'Career Management Resources' (CMR).
The new name, Whit Blakeley felt, represented more clearly the services and focus of CMR. Today, the "CMR" is synonymous
with executive career management consulting services to executives of medium-to-large firms throughout the Southeast.
Meanwhile, CMR and Whit Blakeley are looking to new and innovative ways through electronic media and traditional means
of reaching out to and assisting executives with a more comprehensive and effective range of services.
